Fire regulations Volume 1 - Sections B4
Construction of the External Walls
Need to have fire resistance to prevent fire spreading
External walls
Appendix A
1000mm of the relevant boundary should be met, Class 0
Space Separation
Required space between buildings and adjacent buildings
Fire spread damage and from collapsing
Assumptions
Dwelling houses set out the sort of fire that will likely happen (based of things that are within the house)
The use of the building determines the likely hood of what fire you get
Only apply with small buildings surrounded by small buildings
Boundaries
We assume that there is a set distance of the 4 walls
New building and old building, creates the boundaries depending on the material of the old buildings material
The boundaries are set to prevent spreading of fire from building to building
Unprotected Areas
Materiality, and how it affects the boundaries
The more unprotected area a wall has, the further the boundary must be from the exterior wall
Canopies also change the boundary, as the canopy may collapse or jumping of fire will be a risk
Things that were the key parts of the section:
-> Materiality
-> Protection
