Within CIAT there is a membership hierarchy, which determines the level you are within the Architectural Technologist profession. And with each level comes different qualifications and descriptions, to obtain certain titles within CIAT there are membership processes that are required to be completed.
List:
Chartered Architectural Technologist (MCIAT)
- This title is protected and to receive this title you are required to successfully complete the membership process, when and if you complete it the only institute able to award this is CIAT themselves. Referencing to Chartered Architectural Technologist should be used to help differentiate those that are Architectural Technologists, but have yet to demonstrate their competence, or are not part of a professional institute.
Architectural Technician (TCIAT)
- This should only be used for professionally qualified Architectural Technicians.
Associate Member (ACIAT)
- These members are holders of academic achievements in Architectural Technology, as well as a holding title while progressing towards a TCIAT or MCIAT.

Trainee Architectural Technologist
Junior Architectural Technologist

Student Members - No Designation
- This title is the first step towards being awarded TCIAT or MCIAT, and the holders of this title are people who are in the process of the academic part of the training.
